This painting was really an exploration of colour and contrast. I wanted to work with a strong purple background and expressive mark making and see how I could make this arrangement come to life.
I worked quite loosely and allowed the watercolour and inks to move and blend naturally across the paper rather than trying to control every shape. The black line work was added afterwards to simplify areas and bring structure back into the composition without losing the spontaneity of the paint.
The vase acts as a simple grounding shape amongst the busier floral forms, helping balance the composition. Overall, the work is more about colour, movement, and expressive mark-making than botanical detail.
