Hydrangeas in a Teapot

There was something about these hydrangeas — soft, slightly fading and full of beautiful tones of colour — that inspired me to paint them. I paired them with my grandmother’s old dented teapot, which I thought both the hydrangeas and teapot held a time of significance. This artwork became less about a still life painting and more about memory and the beauty found in everyday things and bygone times.

Using a mixed media approach allowed me to work more intuitively, building texture and loosening the forms rather than painting them too precisely. For me, this piece is really about a feeling — that holds a space where flowers, objects, and memories seem to hold onto one another for just a little longer.
