Storm Light. Binalong Bay. Tasmania

This painting was inspired by my first visit to Binalong Bay on Tasmania's east coast. We arrived and a storm was rolling in across the bay, filling the sky with stunning greys, deep blues, and dramatic cloud formations. The landscape felt wild and untamed, with the weather changing by the minute.

What captivated me most, however, was the extraordinary contrast between the darkening sky and the brilliant orange lichen covering the granite boulders. Against the approaching storm, the rocks seemed to glow from within, creating a striking display of colour and resilience.

Painted with expressive brushwork and a contemporary palette, this work captures that fleeting moment when nature reveals both its power and its beauty — the tension of an approaching storm balanced by the unexpected brightness of the landscape beneath it.
