This painting began quite simply while I was arranging a collection of everyday objects on the table — a teapot, cups, fabric, and a few pieces of fruit. But it was the pear that kept drawing my attention. There was something about its shape and quiet presence that felt grounding amongst everything else. It became the hero of the composition without me really planning it.
I loved the contrast between its dark, organic form and the lighter surrounding objects, and how the soft morning light gently moved across the table. Rather than painting every detail, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the moment — those quiet pauses we often overlook in everyday life.
The loose watercolour washes and soft pencil lines allowed the pear to feel both simple and expressive at the same time. For me, this work is about appreciating ordinary objects and discovering beauty in the subtle relationships between shape, light, and space.
