This piece continues my exploration into a more contemporary floral style, where shape, colour, texture, and composition become just as important as the flowers themselves. I loved the strong silhouette of this deep blue vase — it felt bold, sculptural, and grounding against the lighter textured background.
Unlike the earlier piece with the green vase, this one became much more about contrast and balance. The rich blue vase anchors the composition, while the soft blush-toned flowers and bright green leaves bring a sense of lightness and movement across the surface.
I also introduced touches of gold leaf into this work, which add little moments of warmth and light. I love how the gold catches unexpectedly against the turquoise and blue tones, giving the painting an almost jewel-like quality in places.
The simplified floral forms and graphic outlines give the work a playful contemporary feel, while the textured surfaces and layered paint keep it painterly and expressive. For me, this piece sits somewhere between still life and design — a celebration of colour, pattern, and modern floral composition.
