My daily walks along the Meander River have become an observation of the landscape in its changing moods. In winter, there is a particular calm – the river is still, the trees are resting and the landscape seems to be quietly sleeping.
Winter Light captures that moment, when the first warmth of the sun begins to move through the cold landscape, bringing a hint of colour and the life back into the river and surrounding bush. Rather than painting the scene literally, I have used heightened colour to express the feeling of that early light – the warmth of the sky against the cool blues of the water and the deep, shadowed trees. There is something about the bare trees, the cold air and the muted landscape that gives me room to breathe.
My walk has become a necessary habit, where this space of peacefulness allows me to gather my thoughts and begin my day.
